COLLECTION OF LATEST HISTORY AND CONTEMPORARY TIMES

Collection of latest history and contemporary times is the most recent collection of the City Museum of Sisak. It was formed at the beginning of 1992. Data used as a basis for its establishment were materials from the National Defense War, workers movement, which were researched by the active research department. Apart from renaming and restructuring, by compiling collections and activities, the collection of latest history and contemporary times has expanded its activity. It studies the entire life of the town of Sisak and its inhabitants. The period covered by its activities starts from 1874 when the military and civilian Sisak merged into a unified town, and Sisak began to take on a shape of today's city culture with the still recognizable lifestyles. In terms of themes, the collection covers a wide area of social, political, military, economic, cultural and everyday life, putting a special emphasis to crucial moments and persons who marked the life of Sisak by their activities or beliefs.

As one can read from its very title, the collection of latest history and contemporary times, compared to other collections in the museum, collects objects from everyday life. It is partly focused at pat of reality which was presence yesterday and today is a past which left a mark in the life of an individual and community and which will become a subject of historical interest in the future.

Apart from collecting the above-mentioned materials, this collection is also focused at collecting information on events and persons who marked the life of the town in certain periods of time using the method of oral history. Putting together and comparing memories and interpretations of individuals about the same events and assembling them into one general, a more complete picture of the life of the city and its inhabitants is created and every change in perspective to certain historical events is monitored.

The collection, whose volume is increasingly expanding by donations and purchases, has 2700 items and prepared objects, categorized in several sub-collections. Within the sub-collections, there are groups of objects related to specific segments of life in the town of Sisak, such as education, press, activities of some associations, everyday life, political activity, military activity and objects from lives of individuals who marked the life of the city by their personal and social activity in the observed period.
