The work of the library is tightly related to the foundation and beginning of work of the City Museum in 1942, which means that the library has existed in the institution from the very beginning. The library belongs to a category of special libraries and is intended for professional staff in the museum, students and citizens engaged in different kinds of research. The library collection consists of publications from various fields of humanistic sciences and art, numerous magazines, newspapers, annuals, calendars, bibliographies, catalogues of exhibitions held in the Museum and numerous other materials. Replacements and donations of publications from the libraries of the same type as well as small purchases supply this type of libraries. Special value of the library are books dealing with the past and the presence of the Sisak area, as well as the books written by people from Sisak and books printed in Sisak.

The library has a great number of publications printed in European and Croatian printing shops from the 17th century onwards. Despite abundant and numerous materials, the library does not have adequately spacious and equipped premises, which should be a stimulus for the future renovation of this valuable library. Materials are prepared in the computer program called CROLIST.
