Ethnographic collection of the City Museum of Sisak, compiled in the course of some fifty years, assisted by the activities of all curators who managed the collection (Lastric, Majnaric, Karagity), has exceeded the figure if 3000 items. This collection covers broad surroundings of Sisak: geographic and cultural unity and diversity of places and villages in Posavina, Pokuplje and Banovina.
Subject of research and presentation is material and spiritual culture of the people - inhabitants of this region. It covers life in all its forms, not only that represented by the objects in the collection but also the life in the field, which is continually followed by textual and photographic records.
Inevitable themes of this region are:
- National architecture of several storey buildings has reached its most famous moments in this region: from long and massive beams to chapels from Pokuplje - the collection has tools for house plastering;
- Oak, wood, as a construction element, is also a material for manufacturing furniture which marks the interior - from chests for storing maize and clothes, through cupboards and wardrobes to various business devices and tools;
- This region abounds in textile handicraft, with red elements on white surface, from bed linen, towels, head covers such as famous "pece and poculice" to basic garments: with motives of "roses" from Hrastelnica and Martinian geometrical patterns to exceptional Sunja whiteness of embroidered jackets, curtains and kerchiefs;
- Collection of upper garments - with a large number of "reklec", there are also "šuba, surka, kepenjek, aljina, curci, menteni and zobuni" (names for various upper garment pieces in local dialect);
- Ancient method of cultivating flax and processing linen as main textile raw material - looms and a large collection of spinning wheels;
- Pottery in Banovina - collection of pottery products;
- Various jewelry - out of which ladies coral necklaces are most important to mention;
- Widely spread basket weaving - special woven basket from Gornja Posavina;
- Old fishing devices and tools - harpoons, caulkers tools rowboat 6 metres long;
- Collection of clocks.
Annual and life customs, among others "wedding in Posavina" ("posavska svadba") and "Easter Bonfire" ("uskrsnji krijes"), are only a couple originating from this region. Numerous publications and photographs from the field testify about their abundance.
